We’ve covered celebrity bloggers, YouTube Personalities, RC fliers, aspiring singers and rappers. Today, we’re featuring our first food blogger. Who doesn’t like a little food porn?
Deb Perelman, author of the uber-successful blog “Smitten Kitchen,” is today’s Online Fame Idol not only because she knows how to write great content, but because she’s leveraged the popularity of her blog to create a personal brand and extremely successful career.
So who is she?
Deb Perelman is the author of Smitten Kitchen, a food blog that features the food Deb cooks for herself and her family in a “puny 42 square foot circa-1935 sort of half-galley kitchen with a 24 foot footprint, a single counter, tiny stove, checkered floor and a noisy window at the end to the avenue below.” Launched in 2006, the Smitten Kitten has received many accolades, including two Bloggies Awards for ”Top Food Mom Blog” and one for “Best Food Weblog.” In 2012, she published The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook, which quickly became a New York Times bestseller.
Deb’s success definitely stems from her genuine, hilarious and authentic writing style, which we can’t help but assume is reflection of her true personality. This–along with the delectable recipes she features on her blog–has most certainly been her key to success. On her “About” page, Deb is anything but serious…something we at Online, on trend find quite endearing:
“Deb is the kind of person you might innocently ask what the difference is between summer and winter squash and she’ll go on for about twenty minutes before coming up for air to a cleared room and you soundly snoring. It’s taken some time, but she’s finally realized that there are people out there that might forgive her for such food, cooking and ingredient-obsessed blathering and possibly, even come back for more.”
When asked in an interview with the Culinate blog ”Is there a difference between the Deb Perelman of Smitten Kitchen and Deb Perelman, the real woman?” Deb replied, “personality-wise . . . oh, my God, I don’t have the energy to have two versions of myself. It sounds like it would be exhausting and not very enjoyable, so it’s just me.”
We think that’s just splendid.
Why is she an Online Fame Idol?
Outside of her public persona and authenticity, Deb has also done a terrific job at strengthening the Smitten Kitchen brand both on and off the blog’s main website. When a user visits the Smitten Kitchen ‘About’ page, they are greeted with the following message:
