We remember when the above video went viral a few years ago. The first thing we thought was, WHO are these people, and where can we find more? Well, the two individuals that make up the duo “KARMIN” are Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan, who after forming the duo started posting dynamic YouTube covers a few years ago. Originally posting under the YouTube channel “Karmin” (they have since changed their channel name to “Karmincovers” and have an official “Karminvevo” channel), the duo posted very professional, uniquely composed covers of popular songs for their followers to enjoy. Accompanying their original YouTube channel, they also had their own website (which they managed themselves!), Facebook page, and Twitter handle (@karminmusic) .
The video became popular not only via word-of-mouth, but because it was posted on reddit, and on Ryan Seacrest’s blog. All over the web, the buzz was surrounding this very quirky duo who posted quality content. If the millions of views and mentions on popular websites wasn’t enough, the pair also received a call from daytime talk show The Ellen Degeneres Show, which changed their lives forever. Ellen had requested that the pair come on television and perform the “Look at Me Now” cover, and also gave them the opportunity to sing their own original music.
Since the couple has appeared on the Ellen Show, they announced to their fans via their official website that they had signed with a major record label. Sticking with their online fame roots, they gave their fans the opportunity to tell them what they wanted to hear on their upcoming album–the fans said they wanted to hear rapping.
Karmin has been successful not only because of their undeniable talent, but because they have continuously stayed connected to their fans in the digital space. They announced that they were working on their first LP via their Twitter account, and also regularly host UStream chats with their fans–during one of them, they cleared up speculations about their album release date.
Karmin has also not forgotten what other media channels have done for them. They thanked reddit by featuring the reddit alien mascot in one of their cover videos, and have talked in many interviews about how Ryan Seacrest and Ellen Degeneres changed their lives.
Karmin is our Online Fame Idol this week because they are not only great artists, but because their roots were from the online space and they still stay connected online! Below we have a list of their online accounts and how they are using them correctly:
Karmin Twitter: Karmin’s Twitter is the joint space for Amy and Nick to talk Karmin news and official business. The page is branded with both of their pictures’ and they tweet as one entity, not individuals. They regularly engage fans and respond to tweets.
Individual Twitter Handles: Amy and Nick also have their individual Twitter handles, but ensure that they still have Karmin branding on them. Both of their bios read: Half of the daring-est duo: KARMIN. The great part is they talk music but you can really hear both of their individual voices come out of their tweets, as individuals.
Karmin Facebook: Karmin’s Facebook is a great place to see video, photo and other news from Karmin. They have the appropriate branding on their fan page and have also integrated their Instagram into the page.
Karmin Instagram: Karmin’s Instagram has pictures from behind the scenes and again, is an account for both of them. It resonates with audiences because they feel they are getting exclusive back stage pass into their lives.
